Sanjeev Sharma, an engineer from India working at SpaceX, has attracted considerable interest on social media due to his impressive educational and professional achievements. Sanjeev Sharma’s journey from a government position in India to playing a pivotal role in one of the globe’s most groundbreaking space enterprises has motivated numerous online users.

Sharma embarked on his professional path with a degree from the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). He then enjoyed a fruitful career at Indian Railways, initially taking on the role of Divisional Mechanical Engineer.

His dedication and expertise allowed him to advance to the position of Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer, where he contributed to the organization for more than 11 years.

After earning his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Sharma became part of Seagate Technology in 2003. He was employed at Seagate Technology for approximately five years. He began his tenure as a Staff Mechanical Engineer in 2003 and departed from the company five years later, having advanced to the position of Senior Engineering Manager. During his five-year tenure at Seagate, he also earned an MS in Management of Technology from the University of Minnesota.

In 2013, Sharma experienced a significant advancement in his career by becoming a Dynamics Engineer at SpaceX. In this role, he spearheaded initiatives in structural dynamics, contributing significantly to the recovery and reusability of the Falcon 9 rocket boosters.

He detailed his experience in enhancing the recovery and reuse capabilities of the first-stage booster, specifically from F9-005 to F9-0059. He spearheaded the structural dynamics initiatives, collaborating closely with teams focused on aerodynamics, guidance, navigation, control, propulsion, and thermal systems. In 2018, he briefly departed SpaceX to join Matternet Inc., a pioneering developer of commercial drone delivery systems. During his tenure at Matternet, he led vehicle engineering and later headed the technology division. 

However, Sharma’s passion for space exploration soon led him back to SpaceX in 2022. He returned as a Principal Engineer for Starship Dynamics, bringing his wealth of experience to the development of SpaceX’s ambitious Starship program. Currently based in Hawthorne, California, he continues to drive innovation in space technology.
