Pune | July 14, 2025: Tensions flared at Savitribai Phule Pune University on Monday as a large group of engineering students broke through the university gate and attempted to storm the Vice-Chancellor’s office.

The students, backed by NSUI, Youth Congress, and several other student unions, staged a sit-in protest outside the main administrative building demanding justice over alleged discrepancies in their examination results.

According to the protesting students, there have been serious errors in the evaluation process. They claim that while the university allows only a 10% grace on total marks, in one case a student with nine additional marks was inexplicably awarded a total of 20 grace marks—an increase of 11 marks.

Calling it unfair and arbitrary, students have demanded a re-examination and a transparent revaluation process.

Hundreds of students gathered at the campus, raising slogans and vowing not to leave until their grievances are addressed. Police and security personnel were deployed in large numbers to control the situation and prevent any escalation. Initially barred from entering, the students forced their way inside by breaking the main gate.

The protestors insist they will not withdraw until the Vice-Chancellor personally meets them and agrees to their demands. “We will not move an inch until our voices are heard, and the errors in our results are rectified,” said one of the students leading the agitation.
