A former Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employee has stirred discussion on Reddit after revealing that his juniors earn 30–40% more than him despite having less experience.

The IT analyst, now in his second job, said his relatively low salary is due to TCS’s “really low” pay package at the time he switched. Although he received an 85% hike when joining his current company, he later discovered that two juniors under him, with less experience and lower designations, earn significantly more because they came from better-paying firms.

“I handle more work, responsibility, and stress, but I still get paid less. It’s difficult not to compare,” he wrote.

The post triggered widespread advice from fellow Reddit users. Many suggested he seek a market correction by presenting his achievements, peer salaries, and contributions to his manager or HR. Others shared similar experiences, noting that compensation often depends more on negotiation than merit.

Career experts also advise professionals to take charge of their growth. According to Harvard Business Review, employees should hold separate career meetings with managers, highlight achievements, set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound), and regularly follow up to stay aligned with company objectives.
