Pune: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday announced that the government will conduct a thorough review of all arms licenses issued in Pune district over the past two years. The decision comes in the wake of the Vaishnavi Hagawane dowry harassment and suicide case, where a weapon license was allegedly obtained using forged documents.

Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis said nearly 600 arms licenses were granted during this period and any irregularities uncovered in the review would lead to strict action. “We will conduct a detailed inquiry into the issuance of weapon licenses in the last two years. If violations are found, those responsible will be held accountable,” he stated.

Fadnavis also confirmed that police are investigating allegations that senior police officer Jalandhar Supekar assisted the Hagwane family in securing a license improperly. Supekar, a relative of Vaishnavi’s husband, is already under scrutiny for allegedly shielding the accused in the case.

Commenting on the progress of the investigation, the chief minister added, “The police are conducting a fair and proper probe. Justice will be ensured, and anyone trying to interfere with the investigation will face strict consequences.”
