Police probe another ATM fraud incident after a stuck debit card leads to cyber theft via tampered kiosk in Nakhate Vasti.

In yet another case of ATM fraud in Pune, a 47-year-old man from Rahatani, Pimpri-Chinchwad, lost ₹1.24 lakh after calling a fraudulent helpline number displayed at a tampered SBI ATM kiosk in Nakhate Vasti. The incident occurred around 8:45 pm on April 15, when the man’s debit card got stuck in the machine while attempting a withdrawal.

Assuming it was a technical glitch, the victim dialed a “customer support” number pasted inside the ATM booth. The person on the line requested his PIN and bank details, assuring help — but within hours, over ₹1.24 lakh had been siphoned off through multiple online transactions into fraudulent accounts.

When the bank authorities failed to act, the victim approached Kalewadi Police Station, which has now registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the IT ActInvestigation Officer confirmed that the transactions were unauthorized and a probe is underway to identify and arrest the culprits.

This incident follows a similar scam in Wadgaon Dhayari last month, where two women lost money after contacting a fake number at an SBI ATM kiosk when their cards got stuck.

Public Warning:

Authorities urge citizens not to trust helpline numbers pasted inside ATMs. In case of issues, use only official bank contact channels or visit the branch directly. Sharing personal banking information over calls can lead to financial loss and identity theft.
