Daughter claims she wasn’t consulted during 2006 land sale, demands compensation from buyer; legal experts say buyer is on firm ground

A land transaction that took place in 2006 in Bengaluru has sparked a fresh legal controversy, with the seller’s daughter now seeking compensation from the current owners. She alleges that the land was sold by her father without her consent, despite being an adult at the time and the sale reportedly intended to fund her wedding.

According to the buyer—who shared the ordeal on Reddit—the land, located under BBMP limits, was sold through a valid sale deed without any Power of Attorney (POA) involvement. Since the purchase, the buyer’s family has been paying property taxes regularly, and the Khata certificate reflects their ownership.

Daughter Raises Objection After 19 Years

Nearly two decades after the transaction, the seller’s daughter has issued a legal notice to the current owners, claiming that she was neither consulted nor informed about the sale. The buyer claims the original seller had stated that the land was sold specifically to arrange his daughter’s marriage.

Mixed Messages and Escalation

Initially, the seller’s son reassured the buyers that the issue would be resolved as a family matter. However, months later, he reportedly changed his stance, urging the buyers to consult a lawyer and suggesting potential legal action.

More recently, he has proposed an out-of-court settlement, with subtle pressure tactics including comments like, “What if the judge rules in her favour?” The buyer alleges that the seller’s son referenced similar cases where buyers were forced to pay to resolve disputes quietly.

Legal Standing and Public Reaction

Legal experts have reportedly assured the buyer that they hold solid legal ground, as the transaction was properly documented with a registered sale deed and supporting government records.

The case has drawn widespread attention online. Reddit users overwhelmingly backed the buyer, arguing that if all documentation is valid and the property records match government data, the case should not stand in court. Others speculated that the daughter might be pursuing the claim due to being excluded from family inheritance.

The matter highlights the increasing number of inheritance-related land disputes surfacing years after valid transactions and has sparked conversations around due diligence, legal clarity, and misuse of civil litigation.
