As part of a summer special drive conducted between April 15 and May 31, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pune Division, collected 50 food samples from various food business operators (FBOs) suspected of selling substandard or unsafe products. Officials confirmed that all collected samples have been sent to a government laboratory for analysis, and necessary action will be taken based on the results.
The samples collected include items widely consumed during the summer such as ice, soft drinks, ice cream, mangoes, and other seasonal food products. The drive aimed to ensure public health and curb the sale of adulterated or misbranded food items.
According to Suresh Annapure, Joint Commissioner of FDA (Food), Pune region, results for several items are still pending. However, some reports have already been released. “All 12 mango samples tested were of standard quality,” he said. “Of the five soft drink samples, only one met the required norms, while two were found to be misbranded.”
The FDA has initiated adjudication proceedings against the two FBOs responsible for selling the misbranded cold drinks, both of which belong to reputed brands.
The department reiterated its commitment to ensuring food safety during the summer season and has assured the public of continuous monitoring and strict action against violators.
