Dressed in vibrant traditional attire and surrounded by the buzz of a Navratri celebration, Kavita Medhar lit up the stage — quite literally. The Pune-based flair bartender recently went viral for a controversial Instagram video that shows her juggling fire-lit bottles while holding her toddler in one arm. The performance, equal parts mesmerizing and nerve-racking, has since ignited a heated discussion online.

Captured during a festive event, the video showcases Kavita blending cultural celebration with her passion for flair bartending — an art form that involves juggling and performing acrobatic bottle tricks. With one hand balancing her baby, she flawlessly flips glass and fire bottles with the other. The caption reads simply, “Navratri special,” but the reaction from viewers has been anything but simple.

While her skill and confidence have been praised by many, the presence of her child in such a high-risk act has raised eyebrows. “Kudos to her for breaking barriers, but this wasn’t the right way to do it,” one user commented. Another wrote, “I love her talent, but risking the child’s life is too much.” Comments like “She’s incredibly talented, but as a mother, she should’ve kept safety in mind” reflect the concerns of several viewers.

Others took a more neutral stance, appreciating the performance but questioning her decision: “Salute to the skill, but the child shouldn’t have been part of it. If something went wrong, regret wouldn’t undo it.” One user bluntly noted, “Talent is one thing, but involving someone who doesn’t know the danger? That’s risky.”

Originally from Hubli, Karnataka, Kavita was first introduced to flair bartending by her relative Raj Medar after finishing her graduation. She honed her skills at Flair Mania Bartending Academy in Pune, where she dedicated 8 to 9 hours a day to rigorous training. Her dedication bore fruit in 2021 when she set a world record, performing 122 bottle flips in a minute with one hand — a feat that earned her a place in the London World Book of Records.

Her flair caught national attention in 2022 when she stunned judges and audiences alike on India’s Got Talent, earning applause for her fiery performances. Today, she commands a strong following of over 172,000 fans on Instagram, where she regularly posts videos showcasing her juggling and fire tricks.

Despite the criticism, many agree on one point — her talent is undeniable. But the discussion around safety and parental responsibility remains unresolved.
