Fire Engulfs Bus Carrying IIT-Bombay Students on Pune-Bangalore Highway, No Injuries Reported
Satara | March 5 – A luxury bus carrying 32 students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay caught fire on Wednesday morning near Anewadi Toll Naka on the Pune-Bangalore National Highway. No injuries were reported, thanks to the quick action of the bus driver.
The incident occurred around 9:30 AM while the students were traveling to Satara for a project visit to the Suzlon company in Chalkewadi. Shortly after passing the Anewadi Toll Naka, the driver noticed flames at the rear of the bus. Reacting swiftly, he pulled the vehicle onto the service road and instructed the students to evacuate immediately.

Although the sudden fire caused panic among the students, they quickly grabbed their belongings and exited safely. Local residents alerted the fire department, and firefighters arrived promptly to extinguish the blaze. While the fire severely damaged the bus’s seats, all passengers remained unharmed.
District Traffic Branch Police Inspector Vikas Dhas and Assistant Police Inspector Ramesh Garje of Bhuinj Police Station arranged an alternate luxury bus for the students, allowing them to continue their journey without further disruption.
As of now, the incident has not been officially reported to Bhuinj Police Station. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
