Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Passes Away at 92

Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India and a stalwart of the Congress Party, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. He had been under critical care at AIIMS, New Delhi, where a team of doctors was treating him. The reason for his hospitalization has not been disclosed.

Dr. Singh, the country’s first and only Sikh Prime Minister, rose to prominence in 1991 when he joined the Rajya Sabha and became Finance Minister under the PV Narasimha Rao government. His economic reforms during this period are credited with transforming India’s economy. Representing Assam for five terms in the Rajya Sabha, Dr. Singh later shifted to Rajasthan in 2019.

A distinguished economist and statesman, Dr. Singh’s contributions to India’s political and economic landscape remain unparalleled.
