Former Pune MP Vandana Chavan Urges Pune Municipal Commissioner To Halt Hazardous Blasting At Parvati Development Site
Pune, January 7, 2024:Â
Former Member of Parliament Vandana Chavan has raised serious concerns about ongoing blasting operations at a development site in Parvati (Survey No. 135), urging Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale to take immediate action.
In a letter addressed to Dr. Bhosale, Chavan highlighted the alarming vibrations and potential risks to nearby buildings and residents caused by the blasting. The activity, being conducted under Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) development, has reportedly led to rattling windows, disorientation, and concerns over structural stability in the neighborhood.

Chavan stated, “Despite lodging complaints with the SRA CEO, police, and even personally visiting the site to intervene, the blasting temporarily halts only to resume a day or two later. Such operations pose a clear risk to public health and property, regardless of the developer’s permissions under the Explosives Rules, 2008.”
The former MP has requested a meeting with the municipal commissioner to discuss this issue and similar incidents across Pune. She stressed the urgent need to reassess permissions and implement stricter regulations to ensure public safety.
The letter underscores the broader implications of unregulated blasting in urban areas, calling for swift and decisive action to protect citizens.
