Found An Insect In Your Meal? Use FSSAI’s 'Food Safety Connect' App To Report It Instantly
New Delhi, August 7, 2025: In a move aimed at strengthening food safety and hygiene across the country, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced a new digital mechanism that allows consumers to instantly report unhygienic or substandard food through a QR code.
Restaurants, hotels, cafes, and all food outlets have been instructed to prominently display QR codes linked to the Food Safety Connect mobile app at billing counters, dining areas, websites, and even food delivery platforms. With just a quick scan, customers can lodge complaints related to poor food quality, unclean premises, misleading labels, or packaging issues.
The FSSAI stated that the initiative is designed to make grievance redressal more accessible and efficient. Once scanned, the QR code connects users to the Food Safety Connect Portal (https://foscos.fssai.gov.in/consumergrievance), where they can submit their concerns and track the authenticity of Food Business Operators’ licenses or registration certificates. The platform also provides informative articles and videos on food safety.
“This system empowers citizens to know their rights and take swift action when they encounter violations in food standards,” the authority noted on its website. “From stale food and insects to fungus or false labeling, any concern can now be reported within seconds.”
Complaints filed through the portal or mobile app are automatically routed to the respective regional FSSAI officials, ensuring timely follow-ups and greater accountability from food establishments.
The Food Safety Connect app is available for download on the Google Play Store, giving consumers a powerful tool to protect their health and demand better hygiene from food service providers across India.
