A full-grown tree of Phanshi/ Dalbergia Lanceolaria type had been felled opposite Sant Tukaram Garden in Nigdi Pradhikaran for which the residents have demanded immediate action.

As per information shared by Dhananjay Shedbale, Trustee, Devrai Foundation, around 2 days back ( January 10), a native, fully grown and beautiful tree of Phanshi/Dalbergia Lanceolaria type in Nigdi Pradhikaran, Opp Sant Tukaram Garden, Sector 27A and 27 connecting 8 lane road was chopped off.

Shedbale further says “This is a terrible situation and we feel ashamed that this has happened in broad daylight and on a very busy road. This tree was in full bloom in the recent past and even today you can see huge seeds fallen on the ground when this has been killed by the merciless gang.”

Shedbale added “Trees are the endless prayers of Mother Earth but our system seems to not be on the same page. To stop such incidents, strong action and vigilance are expected before we lose the green cover of our city. We expect immediate action in the matter.”

Shedbale further continued, “We request the PCMC to take immediate action to investigate this matter and find out who is behind this and what was the motive of this felling and file a criminal case under Maharashtra Tree Act 1975 and Forest Act 1972 for biodiversity damage and any other which you feel is appropriate.”

Pune Pulse tried contacting PCMC officials but couldn’t connect while reporting the article.
