FYJC Admissions Extended Again as 8.3 Lakh Seats Remain Vacant in Maharashtra
Pune: The state government has once again extended the First Year Junior College (FYJC) admission schedule for the academic year 2025–26, citing a huge number of vacant seats across Maharashtra. Despite more than four special rounds being conducted, thousands of seats still remain unfilled, delaying the start of the academic calendar.
As per official data, out of 1,483,033 students who registered, 1,324,646 have secured admission so far. The total intake capacity across FYJC colleges is 2,159,232 seats, leaving 834,586 seats still vacant. To address this, the education department has announced another special round of admissions, which will be conducted from September 11 to September 13.
Parents and students have voiced concern over the repeated extensions, saying the uncertainty is creating stress.
Education experts also worry that the late admissions will disrupt the academic flow. Classes have already started with around 50% strength. New admissions at this stage will disturb academics across FYJC colleges.
Stakeholders hope this will be the final extension, ensuring a smoother conclusion to the process.
