Giripremi Mountaineering Pune To Celebrate International Mountain Day With Various Competitions

December 11th is celebrated globally as International Mountain Day. To raise awareness about the importance of mountains in our lives, their unfortunate degradation by humans, and the need for restoration and conservation, various events are organized worldwide. Each year UNESCO’s Food and Agriculture Organization declares a theme for conducting the events. This year’s theme is “Mountain solutions for a sustainable future – innovation, adaptation, youth and beyond.”

Since this year’s theme focuses on children and the youth, it is important for them to actively participate in this initiative. In light of this, Giripremi mountaineering club in Pune has organized a drawing competition for the 8-16 age group and a flyer-making competition for the 16-25 age group. The theme for the drawing competition is “My Favorite Mountain” and for the flyer-making competition, it is “Sustainable Development of Mountains and Measures for it”. 

Giripremi urges as many children and young enthusiasts as possible to participate in these competitions. The registration is free! The winners will receive cash prizes.

Through this initiative, the hope is to spread a message of awareness about the importance of mountains, shed light upon their current condition, and inspire youth towards conservation efforts.
