Graduate Bride Rejects Groom Calls Off Wedding with 10th Grade Fail Groom after Jaimala Ceremony
A bride in Mustfabad Kala village refused to marry her groom after the jaimala ceremony, claiming he was less educated and mentally challenged. This incident occurred on November 17, right in the middle of the wedding festivities, even after the groom’s procession had arrived. The bride is a graduate, while the groom has not passed his 10th grade. The groom’s party came to the bride’s home in the evening, where they were welcomed by her relatives and fellow villagers.
After some rituals and refreshments, the guests began to enjoy the feast. However, the bride’s sudden decision created a stir in the wedding venue. Before this, both families had held a meeting at the police station. The bride, 28 years old and the eldest daughter in her family, was set to marry a 30-year-old man from a nearby village. Her father, who works as a laborer in Delhi, has three daughters and a son.
The jaimala ritual took place on a stage, but right after it, the bride abruptly refused to marry the groom, claiming he was mentally unfit. Elders from both families tried to convince her, but despite their efforts continuing into the morning, she remained firm in her decision. The police arrived to mediate the situation, but they could not reach a resolution.
On Tuesday, the fathers of both the bride and groom went to the Dostpur police station. After several hours of discussions, both sides managed to reconcile.
According to Pandit Tripathi, the in-charge at Dostpur police station, the groom’s family will return the expenses incurred for the Tilak ceremony, and the jewelry given to the bride by the groom’s side will also be returned. Both parties have agreed to this settlement, as stated by the police.
The bride’s family has chosen not to talk to the media, while the groom’s father mentioned that everything was proceeding normally until the jaimala ceremony. After that, the bride went inside and caused a scene over a pair of slippers and bangles, insisting, “I will not marry. I forgot to take them.” The bride’s family has clearly stated, “Give us our Tilak expenses and take back your jewellery.”
