Graphic Designer with 14 Years of Experience Turns Autorickshaw Driver, Viral Post Sparks Conversation

A Mumbai-based graphic designer, Kamlesh Kamtekar, has captured attention online after sharing his remarkable journey of resilience and reinvention. Laid off from his role as an assistant creative manager and unable to secure another job despite 14 years of experience, Kamtekar made the bold decision to pivot to driving an autorickshaw to support himself.

In a heartfelt LinkedIn post that has since gone viral, Kamtekar detailed the struggles he faced during months of unemployment. Despite extensive networking and applying for numerous roles, he was met with constant rejections. “I have reached out to many friends for referrals, but I have not been successful yet. I have applied to numerous positions on LinkedIn as well, but my applications have consistently been rejected,” he wrote.

Kamtekar explained that many companies declined his applications due to salary expectations that exceeded their budgets. Faced with this feedback, he decided to take matters into his own hands. “Why not start my own business and earn money at the same low salary instead of working somewhere else? At least I will have my own income,” he reasoned in his post.

Determined not to dwell on setbacks, Kamtekar made a courageous decision to step away from his graphic design career entirely. “I decided to sacrifice all my designing skills and drive an autorickshaw. Give me your blessing for my new business,” he concluded.

Another praised his resilience: “What a courageous step! More power to you, Kamlesh.”

Some voiced frustration over the hiring practices that led to Kamtekar’s situation. “It’s appalling that companies can’t value experience appropriately,” a user remarked, while others admired his ability to adapt.

“This is such a bold decision. Kudos to you for taking control of your life,” one comment read.

A few users reflected on the broader challenges faced by skilled professionals today. “This is the sad reality for many in the industry. I hope this story inspires change,” a user observed.

Kamtekar’s journey serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience required to navigate career setbacks and the value of embracing new paths in the face of adversity.
