Citizens Urge Authorities for Faster, Affordable Commuting Option
Baramati residents have been increasingly voicing their demand for a local train service between Baramati and Pune, similar to the local trains in Mumbai. Currently, a limited train service operates between the two cities, with trains running only in the morning and afternoon. However, commuters are calling for a faster, local-style train service that would offer a more convenient and efficient travel option.
Over recent years, Baramati has experienced rapid urbanization, which has significantly contributed to higher traffic congestion and longer commute times. Local residents believe that a faster train service could reduce the current travel time of over three hours, potentially cutting it down to two hours. Many locals also see potential in extending the service to Lonavala, which could further boost its popularity.
Adding to the urgency, bus fares for the Baramati-Pune route have recently surged. The cost of traveling by Hirakani and Shivshahi buses has risen to ₹238 and ₹264, respectively. A round trip now costs ₹476 for Hirakani and ₹528 for Shivshahi passengers. In comparison, a monthly train pass for the same route costs just ₹440, making the train a highly cost-effective alternative with a daily commute as low as ₹15. The one-way ticket for the existing train service is only ₹30, underscoring the affordability and convenience of a local train option.
Given the rising costs of bus travel and the growing demand for faster and affordable commuting options, Baramati residents are increasingly calling for the introduction of a local train service between Baramati and Pune.
