Festive season sees prices drop as new GST slabs take effect

Pune: The Modi government’s GST rate reduction has started showing tangible benefits for shoppers this festive season, with DMart customers witnessing significant savings. A recent bill from DMart in Pune highlights the impact of the new GST rates on everyday items.

According to a Lokmat report, a customer in Pune made a purchase at D-Mart Rs 8,857.52 included essentials like pulses, milk, poha, and salt, many of which now fall under the 0% GST slab. Items such as ghee, butter, shrikhand, and packaged pulses are now taxed at 5% GST, while products like clothes, bath items, dish soaps, and cosmetics remain at 18% GST.

The bill shows a total GST charge of Rs 465.28, split equally as Central GST and State GST, reflecting the updated rates. Of the total bill, Rs 1,796.27 came from items that are now exempt from GST, contributing to the overall savings.
