Incident linked to alleged insult of Hindu saints; police probe underway after social media threats
Bareilly witnessed a shocking incident late last night when gunshots were fired outside Bollywood actress Disha Patani’s residence in Civil Lines. According to police, the firing took place around 4:30 am when two men on a motorcycle opened several rounds, including aerial shots, before fleeing the city via the Delhi–Lucknow highway. No injuries were reported, but the incident has raised serious concerns about security.
The Goldy Brar gang has claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post written in Hindi and signed by Virendra Charan and Mahendra Saran. The message declared that the shooting at Villa No. 40, Civil Lines, Bareilly, was carried out in response to an alleged insult to revered Hindu saints Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Maharaj. The post further warned that anyone from the film industry who disrespects Sanatan Dharma or its saints would face similar consequences. “Protecting our religion is our first duty, and we are ready to go to any extent,” the message read.
Police investigations suggest that the assailants had conducted a recce of the actress’s house before executing the firing. Initial findings indicate that the attackers, suspected to be outsiders, fired about seven rounds before making their escape within minutes. CCTV footage from the residence and the nearby highway is being scrutinized to trace their movements.
The incident comes against the backdrop of a controversy from July this year, when Disha Patani’s younger sister, Khushboo Patani, shared an Instagram story containing derogatory remarks aimed at Aniruddhacharya Maharaj. The comments were initially misinterpreted as targeting Premanand Maharaj, prompting Khushboo to issue a clarification video stating that her remarks were directed solely at Aniruddhacharya Maharaj.
Authorities have confirmed that search operations are underway to trace the men involved in the firing, while additional security measures have been put in place around the actress’s residence. Officials said the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness given the gang’s open threat and its possible implications for the film industry.
