Heavy Rain Likely in Mumbai, Pune, and South Konkan Over the Next Two Days; IMD Issues Alerts
Mumbai/Pune, June 28, 2025:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for several parts of Maharashtra, warning of heavy rainfall over the weekend and early next week. The alert covers Mumbai, Pune, South Konkan, and ghat areas of Kolhapur and Satara.
A Yellow Alert has been issued for Mumbai till Monday, with a possibility of isolated heavy downpours. Similarly, South Konkan, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts are expected to receive intense rain, for which Orange Alerts have been issued for Sunday and Monday.
In Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara ghat regions, an Orange Alert remains in place through Monday. Meanwhile, Thane district has also been put under Yellow Alert until Monday.
On Friday, Mumbai recorded scattered rainfall, with Colaba receiving 22 mm and Santacruz recording 8 mm of rain. Since June 1, total rainfall has reached 562 mm in Colaba and 496 mm in Santacruz. Though high tides caused large waves along the city’s coastline, no significant waterlogging was reported.
The rainfall activity has intensified due to an upper-air cyclonic circulation near northwest Rajasthan, which has led to the formation of an east-west trough, enhancing rainfall in the Konkan region.
Additionally, minimum temperatures in Mumbai remained slightly high due to increased morning humidity, with Colaba recording 30°C and Santacruz 31.4°C as maximum temperatures. Minimum temperature at both stations hovered around 27°C.
Authorities have urged residents in alert zones to remain cautious, especially in low-lying and landslide-prone areas.
