Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh warnings for several Indian states as intense weather activity continues across the country. With flood-like conditions in Imphal, Manipur, and heavy rainfall lashing parts of Maharashtra and West Bengal, the IMD has alerted citizens about upcoming storms, strong winds, and heavy showers in multiple regions over the next few days.
States Under Alert
According to the IMD’s latest forecast, on June 5, heavy rain and thunderstorm activity is expected in:
- Rajasthan
- Madhya Pradesh
- West Bengal
- Jharkhand
- Maharashtra
- Himachal Pradesh
- Odisha
- Andhra Pradesh
- Northeastern states of India
South Bengal is likely to witness thunderstorms with light to moderate rain until Friday morning, while heavy downpours are forecasted in the sub-Himalayan districts.
Yellow Alerts Issued for These Dates:
- June 6: Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur – heavy rain warning
- June 7: Eastern Rajasthan – heavy rainfall alert
- June 8: Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam – yellow alert for thunderstorms and heavy rain
Delhi Weather Alert
In Delhi, the IMD has issued a yellow alert, forecasting thunderstorms, light to moderate rain, and gusty winds at 40–50 km/h. Maximum temperature is likely to hover around 34°C, and residents have been cautioned of potential disruptions to daily activities due to poor weather.
Northeast and Central India Forecast
The IMD predicts very heavy rainfall in Meghalaya and widespread rain across the northeast, with a possible decline in intensity afterward. Northwest India is also expected to see lightning, gusty winds, and isolated showers.
In central India, no significant temperature change is expected over the next 24 hours, but a 2–4°C rise in maximum temperatures is likely over the next three days. Conversely, eastern India may experience a drop of up to 2°C in the coming 48 hours.
The IMD has urged residents in the affected states to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions, and follow local advisories. With changing monsoon dynamics, preparedness is key to minimizing disruptions and ensuring safety.
