Heavy Rainfall Alert in Maharashtra, IMD Warns of Widespread Showers Across India This Week
Pune, July 23, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide alert predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states over the next 6-7 days. According to the forecast, Kerala, Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh are likely to experience intense rainfall activity.
The IMD has specifically warned of extremely heavy rainfall in Coastal Karnataka from July 23 to 25, and in the ghat areas of Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra on July 24 and 25. Between July 24 and 28, parts of West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand may also witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, with Odisha likely to receive extremely heavy showers on July 25.
Heavy Rain Predicted for Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Southern States
The IMD forecast suggests:
- Maharashtra: Heavy to very heavy rains over Konkan and ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra on July 24-25. Marathwada may also experience heavy showers on July 26.
- Gujarat: Widespread rainfall expected between July 23 and 29, with Saurashtra and Kutch likely to receive heavy rains.
- Southern India: Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Telangana are set for intense rain spells from July 23 to 29. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu may also experience heavy rainfall at isolated locations during this period. Strong surface winds reaching 40-50 km/h are likely across southern states over the next 5 days.
Bihar, Jharkhand, and Eastern States on Alert
- Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal: Rainfall activity is expected between July 24 and 28, with moderate thunderstorms likely in Bihar on July 24 and 25.
- Eastern UP and Sikkim: Heavy rain is predicted between July 25 and 27.
Heavy Showers Expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand
- Jammu & Kashmir: Isolated heavy rain likely on July 23-24 and July 27-29.
- North India: Rainfall activity is expected in Uttarakhand (July 23-29), Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh (July 23-28). Eastern Uttar Pradesh may experience rains from July 25 to 28.
The IMD has advised local administrations and citizens to stay alert, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides. Fishermen and coastal residents have also been warned about rough sea conditions and strong winds.
