Heavy Rains Disrupt Flights at Pune Airport; Airlines Urge Passengers to Check Updates
Pune, September 15, 2025: Continuous heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Pune have severely impacted flight operations at Pune Airport on Monday, leading to cancellations, diversions, and long delays. The disruptions caused chaotic scenes as hundreds of passengers faced uncertainty about their travel plans.
Airlines including IndiGo, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet confirmed operational issues. IndiGo announced multiple cancellations and advised passengers to rebook via its website or app. However, many travelers voiced frustration on social media, citing inadequate communication and skyrocketing fares during rebooking attempts. Some shared experiences of being stranded inside flights or waiting at terminals for hours.
One passenger reported being stuck for over an hour in Ahmedabad after their flight from Nagpur to Pune was diverted, with no clear update on onward travel. Another traveler expressed distress after waiting at the airport since early morning due to delayed departures.
Akasa Air issued a travel advisory highlighting possible traffic congestion near Pune Airport and urged passengers to plan extra time for reaching terminals. Similarly, SpiceJet alerted fliers that services to and from Pune, Mumbai, and Goa could be affected and recommended checking flight statuses online before leaving for the airport.
Airport authorities assured that safety remains the top priority, and flights will resume as weather conditions permit. Passengers have been requested to rely on official airline updates and remain patient while ground teams work to manage the backlog and ensure smooth operations once the rains subside.
