July 9 | Maharashtra: The state of Maharashtra continues to face intense rainfall as several regions have been placed under weather alerts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). With widespread heavy showers reported across the state, the IMD has issued red, orange, and high alerts in various districts, urging citizens to remain cautious.

Konkan on High Alert

The IMD has issued a red alert for parts of Konkan, warning of extremely heavy rainfall. Districts like Raigad and Ratnagiri are expected to see an increase in rain intensity. Mumbai is also likely to receive heavy rain in some areas. Citizens have been advised to avoid visiting beaches and coastal zones due to the risk of rough sea conditions.

Heavy Showers Predicted in Marathwada

In the Marathwada region, districts such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Beed are likely to witness heavy rainfall today. Some areas may also experience strong winds along with rain, according to the IMD.

Vidarbha Hit Hard, Army on Standby

Vidarbha has already seen major rainfall, especially in Nagpur, where an orange alert has been issued. According to District Collector Vipin Itkar, if the situation worsens, military assistance may be requested. Rescue operations are already underway, with 40 people rescued so far. NDRF and SDRF teams are on alert, and army personnel have been kept ready for any emergency.

As a precaution, schools in Nagpur have been closed for the day, and citizens have been advised to stay indoors unless necessary. While some districts in Vidarbha may witness strong winds and heavy showers, light to moderate rain is expected in eastern areas of the region.

Central Maharashtra Also at Risk

The IMD has also sounded a high alert for Central Maharashtra, especially in the ghat regions. Districts including Pune, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur are expected to receive very heavy rainfall today.

Statewide Monitoring Underway

Authorities across Maharashtra are closely monitoring the situation, with emergency services on standby. The IMD continues to issue updated forecasts, and residents are urged to follow safety guidelines and weather advisories strictly.
