Heavy Rains Trigger Severe Flooding In Pune, Sparking Traffic Chaos And Waterlogging Concerns
Pune has been grappling with severe flooding following heavy rains over the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday evening, intense rainfall inundated several parts of the city, causing significant traffic disruptions and waterlogging. Areas such as Camp, Ghorpadi, Magarpatta, Wanowrie, and Hadapsar experienced knee-deep water, while other regions like Sadashiv Peth, Chandannagar, and Kharadi were also affected.
The situation worsened on Sunday as heavy rain turned roads into streams, obstructing traffic. Key locations including Hadapsar, Market Yard, Timber Market, Nagar Road, Khulewadi Phata, Pune Railway Station, M G Road, and Wadgaonsheri were waterlogged. Passengers at Pune Railway Station had to wade through knee-deep water, and water entered the station premises, causing further inconvenience.

In response, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol announced that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has identified 115 chronic waterlogging spots and will address these urgently. NCP leader and MP Supriya Sule criticized the government’s planning, accusing them of unplanned urban development and mismanagement.
Mohol defended the government’s response, stating that instructions have been given to the PMC to address the identified issues. PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale and the drainage department have already visited the affected areas, including Kondhwa, and are working to mitigate the problem.
