The Mumbai-Goa highway is experiencing significant traffic congestion due to an increased number of vehicles heading to popular destinations like Goa and Alibaug for New Year celebrations, combined with ongoing road construction, according to PTI.

Key areas such as Lonere, Mangaon, and Indapur Poinad in Raigad district were severely affected by traffic jams on Monday, a police official reported. The ongoing construction work along the route has created additional bottlenecks, intensifying the situation. Efforts are underway by highway and local police to alleviate the traffic snarls, the official added.

Mumbai Police Issues Traffic Advisory for New Year’s Eve

In anticipation of New Year 2025 celebrations, the Mumbai Police has implemented traffic regulations in south Mumbai to ensure smooth traffic flow and pedestrian safety. The advisory, effective from 3 PM on December 31, 2024, to 6 AM on January 1, 2025, outlines restrictions such as no parking on certain roads, road closures, and designated parking arrangements.

Emergency vehicles, including those of the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Police, and Ambulances, are exempt from these restrictions.

The police have advised people to rely on public transportation, particularly local trains, as there will be no parking facilities under the Colaba and Marine Drive Traffic Division. However, the Mumbai Coastal Road will remain open for vehicular traffic between 11 PM on December 31 and 11 PM on January 1.
