Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Pune Metro Line 3 Deadline Postponed Again Amid Construction Delays, Public Frustration Grows

Pune: The long-awaited Pune Metro Line 3, connecting Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar over a 23-km stretch, has been hit with yet another delay. The project deadline has been officially postponed, as approved by the executive committee led by the Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), according to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
Confirming the development, PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase said the committee has sanctioned a fresh extension for completing the project.
In a related update, the timeline for the integrated double-decker flyover between University Chowk and E-Square has also been extended.
Despite over 85% of the Metro construction being completed, officials cited major obstacles including pending barricading approvals on high-traffic roads and slow utility relocation work. As a result, trial runs have also been delayed.
Initially expected to be operational by now, the Metro line has faced multiple shifts in its timeline. The entire corridor will be opened in a single phase once fully completed.
Frequent postponements have triggered frustration among daily commuters and tech professionals, especially in Hinjawadi. “It feels like the deadline keeps getting pushed every few months. People are losing patience,” said a commuter advocacy group member.
Officials remain hopeful that the revised timeline is achievable if further disruptions are avoided.
