Viral video from Sitaare Zameen Par premiere shows actor ignoring a young fan, leaving social media disappointed

Riteish Deshmukh, known for his charming persona and often regarded as one half of Bollywood’s most adored couples alongside Genelia D’Souza, has found himself at the centre of online backlash after a video surfaced showing him brushing off a young fan. The incident took place at the premiere of Genelia’s new film Sitaare Zameen Par.

In the widely circulated clip, Riteish is seen holding Genelia’s hand and making his way to the screening hall. Amidst a sea of fans and paparazzi, a young boy approaches the couple and attempts to take a selfie. Without acknowledging the fan, Riteish appears to push down the boy’s hand and continues walking. The child, visibly disheartened, stands frozen as the couple walks away.

The video has triggered a wave of disappointment among fans who have long admired the actor for his grounded demeanour. “First time mujhe Ritesh ka attitude pasand nahi aaya,” one user commented, echoing the surprise of many. Another wrote, “Not expected from Ritesh… very wrong attitude, sorry, unfollowing you now.”

Some comments tagged the actor directly, questioning his reaction. “Imagine his parents would have sent him to you for a pic… what was wrong in that?” read one message, urging the actor to remain humble.

Critics also questioned whether the success of his recent film Housefull 5 might have gone to his head. Remarks like “Housefull jaise movie banake aisa attitude hai bhai” and “Proud moment after the masterpiece Housefull 5?” mocked the perceived arrogance.

What was especially striking to fans was how out-of-character the behaviour seemed for someone long admired for his humility and humour. One viewer noted, “Your facial expressions and attitude say a lot—and not in a good way. I expected a grown man to show more self-control and maturity.”

Neither Riteish Deshmukh nor his team has issued a response as of yet. Meanwhile, Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Genelia opposite Aamir Khan, released this Friday.
