Pune, October 2, 2025: The legacy of the late Lata Mangeshkar continues to grow even after her passing. On the occasion of her 96th birth anniversary, her younger brother and veteran music composer Hridaynath Mangeshkar made a heartfelt announcement that left everyone in awe. He revealed that next year, Asia’s largest hospital will be built in Pune on forty acres of land, and it will be named after Lata Mangeshkar.
This emotional declaration was made during the ‘Mee Lata Dinanath’ programme, a musical evening dedicated to celebrating the late Lata Mangeshkar’s life and her timeless songs in Marathi and Hindi. The tribute programme not only brought back memories of Lata Didi’s unmatched voice but also became a platform for a major announcement about her legacy. The audience, already immersed in the magic of her music, was surprised when Hridaynath Mangeshkar stood up to share the news about the upcoming hospital.

“Lata Didi planted saplings to commemorate Baba’s work. Now it has been expanded considerably. Next year, Asia’s largest hospital will be built in the name of Didi on an area of forty acres. All kinds of modern services and facilities will be provided in this hospital,” Hridaynath said, drawing loud applause from the crowd.
The event saw the presence of many well-known personalities who came together to celebrate the memory of Lata Mangeshkar. Cultural Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, MP Medha Kulkarni, veteran singer Usha Mangeshkar, actor Mohan Joshi, actress Prajakta Mali, Sushil Kulkarni, and Shirish Rayirikar were among those present.
During the same programme, singer Madhura Datar was presented with the ‘Didi Award’ by Hridaynath Mangeshkar, adding another emotional highlight to the evening.
Hridaynath Mangeshkar also addressed the past criticisms that had been raised about Mangeshkar Hospital. He said, “Many people criticised the hospital, though I don’t know why. But Kulkarni stepped forward and presented our side.” Supporting this, Medha Kulkarni clarified that Dr Dhananjay Kelkar and Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital had done nothing wrong, which is why she felt it was necessary to speak up for them.
Cultural Minister Ashish Shelar also came forward in praise, saying, “Even during the allegations, he performed his duties flawlessly.” He further thanked the Mangeshkar family, describing Lata Mangeshkar as “a true cultural ambassador of the nation.” He highlighted that their family’s contribution to Maharashtra’s cultural and social life has left a lasting mark.
Looking Back at the Legacy of Mangeshkar Hospitals
The announcement of a new hospital in Lata Mangeshkar’s name is not the first time the family has worked to combine healthcare with legacy. Back in 2013, the Dinanath Mangeshkar Super Speciality Hospital was officially inaugurated by the then Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, along with Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
At that time, Modi had shared an emotional note, saying that Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle could have easily paid tribute to their father, Dinanath Mangeshkar, through their music. But since their father had passed away due to a lack of medical treatment, the sisters decided to honour him by building a hospital in his name instead.
He also recalled that the foundation stone of the hospital was laid by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said it was his privilege to inaugurate it.
