Pune/Mumbai, July 10, 2025: The Income Tax Department has issued notices to Shrikant Shinde, Member of Parliament and son of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat, over a steep rise in their declared assets between 2019 and 2024. The development has triggered a fresh round of political speculation in the state.

The notices, served on July 10, come amid heightened political tensions and ongoing probes into alleged irregularities involving state leaders.

Shirsat Acknowledges Notice, Denies Wrongdoing
Speaking to the media, Shirsat confirmed he had received the I-T notice and said he has been asked to explain the increase in his assets over the last five years. “This is part of routine scrutiny. All my financial details are available in my 2024 election affidavit. I will cooperate fully with the authorities,” he stated, rejecting opposition allegations of misconduct.

He also revealed that the initial response deadline of July 9 has been extended at his request.

VITS Hotel Controversy Adds Fuel
The notices coincide with the controversy over the auction of VITS Hotel in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Opposition leaders have accused Shirsat’s family of irregularities in the process—a claim he has strongly denied, insisting he withdrew from the tender. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter.

Shinde’s Sudden Delhi Visit Raises Eyebrows
Meanwhile, Eknath Shinde’s unannounced visit to Delhi on the same day as the notices has deepened political intrigue. While the purpose of his visit remains unclear, sources suggest meetings with senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers, fuelling speculation about the broader political implications of the I-T action.

Leaders Call It Routine, Assure Cooperation
Both Shrikant Shinde and Shirsat have reiterated that they view the inquiry as a standard legal process and are confident their financial records will withstand scrutiny.
