Pune: IAS officer Naval Kishore Ram has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). He will officially take charge on June 1. The current Commissioner, Rajendra Bhosale, is set to retire on May 31, and Ram will succeed him.

Naval Kishore Ram is a 2008 batch IAS officer from Champaran district in Bihar. He began his administrative career in Nanded and served as the CEO of Yavatmal Zilla Parishad. He later held the positions of District Collector in Beed and Aurangabad.

In 2018, Ram took charge as the District Collector of Pune. During his tenure, he successfully organized the Koregaon Bhima Shaurya Din event and played a significant role in disaster management during the 2019 floods.

COVID-19 Contribution:

As District Collector during the COVID-19 pandemic, Naval Kishore Ram implemented effective measures. Under his leadership, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and nearby rural areas achieved a recovery rate of about 64%, with a mortality rate of approximately 2.06%, which was lower compared to other districts in the state.

Role in Prime Minister’s Office:

In 2020, he was appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), where he contributed significantly to the implementation of central government policies.
