Igatpuri to Amne Stretch of Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway to Open on June 5
CM Devendra Fadnavis to inaugurate the final 76-km mountain stretch, enabling seamless non-stop travel from Nagpur to Mumbai
The final stretch of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg, a 76-kilometre mountain segment between Igatpuri and Amne, will be officially inaugurated on Thursday, June 5, by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a ceremony at Igatpuri. The route will be opened for public use the same day, marking the completion of the 701-kilometre expressway built by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
This long-awaited stretch was the last missing link in the high-speed corridor that now allows non-stop road travel from Nagpur to Mumbai cutting travel time from 16 hours to just eight hours.
Key highlights:
- Five tunnels have been constructed on the hilly Igatpuri-Amne stretch to facilitate smooth transit.
- One of them, located at Igatpuri, is Maharashtra’s longest road tunnel at 7.78 km, reducing the Igatpuri to Kasara travel time to just 8 minutes.
- With this section opening, all 701 km of the Samruddhi Mahamarg will be fully operational.
- The final stretch work was completed in April, and the upcoming inauguration follows safety inspections and readiness checks.
Breakdown of the Samruddhi Expressway:
- Nagpur to Shirdi – 520 km
- Shirdi to Bharvir – 80 km
- Bharvir to Igatpuri – 25 km
- Igatpuri to Amne – 76 km (to open June 5)
The Samruddhi Expressway is one of CM Fadnavis’s flagship infrastructure projects aimed at boosting connectivity, reducing travel time, and improving logistics between the two major cities of Maharashtra. According to MSRDC Managing Director Anilkumar Gaikwad, this development marks a new era of road travel in the state, with significant economic and time-saving benefits.
Once opened, commuters will be able to drive seamlessly from Nagpur to Mumbai without any breaks, enjoying the full benefit of this high-speed, access-controlled expressway.
