IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall and High Tide Warnings for Mumbai; Severe Weather Predicted for Ghat Areas of Pune
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate to intense spells of rain in isolated places across Mumbai, Sindhudurg, and the Ghat areas of Pune. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its suburbs today, with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
High tides are expected, with a warning of 3.17 meters at 5:22 a.m. and 3.52 meters at 5:14 p.m. Low tides are predicted at 2.35 meters at 10:47 a.m. and 1.60 meters at 11:57 p.m. The IMD Pune head has tweeted that cloud bands are visible over the west coast from Maharashtra to Kerala and parts of the south peninsula and adjacent central India, including the interior of Maharashtra. Moderate to heavy showers are likely to occur intermittently over the next few hours.
Mumbai has recorded an average rainfall of 115.81 mm between yesterday morning and today morning, and the city has been experiencing heavy rains over the last couple of days, causing severe waterlogging and traffic snarls in several areas. The city received 61.69 mm of rain between Friday and Saturday.
An orange alert has been issued for Mumbai, advising residents to avoid going out unless necessary due to the forecast of heavy to very heavy rain. This alert also extends to the regions of Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra’s Konkan area.
In addition to the rainfall and high tide warnings, the IMD has reported that the maximum and minimum temperatures in Mumbai yesterday were 29 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.
