India-Afghanistan T20 cricket match: BMRCL to run special metro service
In a commendable initiative for cricket enthusiasts, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has declared an extension of metro train services to facilitate the anticipated influx of spectators for the India-Afghanistan T20 cricket match on January 17, 2024.
Special Ticketing Arrangements:
To enhance convenience, BMRCL has introduced QR code tickets alongside traditional paper tickets, providing a 5% discount if purchased on the match day. These QR code tickets are accessible through WhatsApp, Namma Metro App, or PayTM. Smart cards and NCMC cards remain valid as usual.
Return Journey Paper Tickets:
To accommodate the surge in cricket fans, BMRCL is introducing special arrangements. Return journey paper tickets will be available at all Metro Stations from 2:00 PM on the match day. These tickets, valid for a single journey until the end of the extended service, will be issued only from Cubbon Park and MG Road Metro Stations starting from 8:00 PM.
Ticketing Options:
Fans have the choice of Rs. 50 paper tickets or QR code tickets at regular rates with a 5% discount, purchasable through WhatsApp, Namma Metro App or PayTM. QR tickets, valid for the entire day, encourage fans to plan in advance to avoid last-minute inconveniences.
Accepted cards and measures for smooth travel:
Regular commuters can continue using Smart Cards and NCMC Cards as usual. However, during extended hours, only QR tickets, Smart Cards and Paper tickets will be allowed at Cubbon Park and MG Road metro stations. This is a strategic measure to manage crowds effectively and ensure smooth travel for everyone.
Extended Service Hours:
In a strategic move, BMRCL has decided to extend the train services until 11:45 PM from the four terminal Metro Stations on both the Purple and Green Lines specifically for Wednesday, January 17 the day of the T20 match. The objective is to guarantee a safe and convenient journey back home for fans without the stress of rushing to catch the last metro.
Important Reminders:
It’s crucial to note that during the extended hours, only QR tickets, Smart Cards and Paper tickets will be accepted at Cubbon Park and MG Road Metro stations. Commuters are strongly encouraged to utilize these options to streamline the process and avoid congestion at ticket counters.
This thoughtful initiative by BMRCL aims to enhance the overall experience for cricket fans attending the T20 match, ensuring efficient transportation and a stress-free journey home after the event.
