Jecheon, South Korea – July 28, 2025: In a landmark moment for Indian roller sports, the Indian Roller Derby Team has won the silver medal at the 20th Asian Roller Skating Championships, held in Jecheon, South Korea, from July 19 to July 30, 2025.

Displaying grit, skill, and teamwork, the Indian team finished second behind Australia, who clinched the gold medal. Japan secured the bronze.

Leading the charge was Captain Shrutika Sarode from Pune, Maharashtra – a dynamic athlete who also holds an engineering degree and a recent MBA. Trained by Coach Ashutosh Jagtap, Shrutika has become a symbol of dedication, balancing academic achievements with sporting excellence.

Speaking after the event, Shrutika shared her emotions:

“Winning silver at the Asian Championships is both proud and emotional for us. Competing with top teams across Asia and standing on the podium is a dream come true. This medal belongs to every skater in India. We hope our win inspires more youngsters to explore Roller Derby. Heartfelt thanks to our coaches, families, and everyone who supported us.”

The national team was guided by Head Coach Sandip Bhatnagar, whose leadership was instrumental in the team’s preparation and performance.

Though still an emerging sport in India, this international success is expected to boost the popularity of Roller Derby, encouraging young athletes to pursue the sport and helping establish a stronger presence for it on the national stage.
