India’s Costliest Vada Pav? Tea and Snack Bill at Luxury Resort Totals ₹1,177
Social media erupts over viral bill from a Gujarat five-star property charging ₹625 for a single vada pav.
A bill from The Postcard Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat has sparked a wave of online reactions after revealing eye-watering prices for a common street snack and tea.
The bill, dated August 4, 2025, shows one vada pav priced at ₹625 and a Kathiawadi chai at ₹325, bringing the food cost to ₹950. A 5% service charge of ₹48, along with 9% CGST and 9% SGST totalling ₹180, pushed the final bill to ₹1,177.
Social media influencer shared the photo of the bill, prompting thousands of comments. “You could have eaten vada pav a thousand times for ₹1,177,” one user remarked. Another joked, “If you remove the chilli on top, maybe it’ll drop by ₹300.”
The contrast between the price and the street value has struck a chord. In Mumbai, vada pav usually sells for ₹15–20, and cutting chai for ₹10–20. For many, the idea of paying more in taxes than the cost of several rounds of the same snack at a street stall feels absurd.
The viral post has once again ignited the debate on luxury pricing, where the location and ambience transform everyday staples into expensive indulgences.
