India’s Highest-Paid Actress Bags ₹30 Crore Per Film, Surpasses Deepika, Alia, Kareena Without a Release in 6 Years
Since relocating to the US in 2015, Priyanka Chopra has made very few appearances in Indian cinema.
India’s top-earning actress, Priyanka Chopra, is making her comeback to Indian cinema after nearly six years, featuring in SS Rajamouli’s upcoming project alongside Mahesh Babu. This film also signifies Priyanka’s return to South Indian cinema after more than two decades. Earlier this year, Bollywood Hungama revealed that Priyanka received an impressive ₹30 crore for her role, setting a record as the highest fee ever paid to an Indian actress for a single film.
“This is why they took so long to announce her participation in the project. She was not willing to budge over her fee, and why should she? Why should only the men actors get double-digit salaries in our films?” said a related source.
Her fee of ₹30 crore is the highest ever paid to a female star for an Indian film.
Before Priyanka committed to Rajamouli’s jungle adventure, Deepika Padukone held the title of the highest-paid Indian actress, earning ₹20 crore for her role in Kalki 2898 AD.
Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt earns ₹15 crore per film. Other prominent actresses such as Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, and Samantha Ruth Prabhu also earn ₹10 crore or more for each project.
Since relocating to the US in 2015, Priyanka Chopra has made very few appearances in Indian cinema. Following the release of Jai Gangaajal in 2016, she featured in just one Indian film, Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink, which came out in 2019.
Priyanka has been occupied with various projects lately, featuring in productions such as Citadel and movies like The White Tiger, The Matrix Resurrections, and Love Again. Additionally, she has Heads of State, co-starring Idris Elba and John Cena, set to be released this year. However, her role in SSMB29 (what they are calling Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli’s next), the proposed movie is anticipated to mark her significant return to Indian cinema.
