With road safety gaining national focus, the Indian government’s Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP) has become the benchmark for car safety ratings. In its latest assessment, five cars secured the coveted 5-star safety rating, offering buyers peace of mind when choosing a family vehicle.
1. Maruti Suzuki Dzire
The country’s best-selling sedan has become the first sedan in India to earn a 5-star rating. Standard features across all variants include six airbags, ESP+, hill-hold assist, 360° camera, ABS with EBD, and TPMS, making it a strong choice for families prioritizing safety.
2. Kia Syros
This newly launched SUV received 30.21/32 for adult safety and 44.42/49 for child safety. It is equipped with Level 2 ADAS, ESC, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), and over 20 safety features, ensuring robust protection.
3. Skoda Kylaq
Skoda’s SUV secured 30.88 points for adult protection and 45 for child protection. Safety highlights include six airbags, electronic stability control, rollover protection, hill-hold control, and multi-collision braking.
4. Toyota Innova Hycross
A trusted MPV, the Hycross now comes with a 5-star badge. Key features include six airbags, radar-based cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, VSC, all-wheel disc brakes, and parking sensors at both ends.
5. Tata Harrier EV
Among electric SUVs, the Harrier EV leads with a perfect 32/32 adult safety score and 45/49 for child safety. It boasts seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS, 540° Clear View system, and a 360° 3D camera, cementing its reputation as a top contender.

While safety ratings are crucial, experts advise looking beyond the stars. Buyers should consider the number of airbags, braking technology, driver-assist features, crash-test scores, and child safety provisions.
