Shares of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, the parent company of IndiGo, are expected to attract significant attention on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, following reports that co-founder Rakesh Gangwal and his family trust plan to offload a stake worth approximately ₹6,831 crore through a block deal.
As per available details, the Gangwal family is likely to sell up to a 3.4% stake in the company. The transaction will reportedly involve around 1.32 crore equity shares priced at a floor rate of ₹5,175 per share and is expected to be carried out in several tranches.
According to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) data dated May 26, 2025, Rakesh Gangwal currently owns 5.3% of IndiGo, amounting to over 2 crore shares. The Chinkerpoo Family Trust—managed by Shobha Gangwal and JPMorgan Trust Company of Delaware—holds an additional 8.23%. Combined, their total stake stands at nearly 13.5%.
Leading financial firms Goldman Sachs (India) Securities, Morgan Stanley India, and JPMorgan India are handling the placement for this block deal.
IndiGo’s stock ended Monday’s trading session 1.78% lower at ₹5,418.30, down from the previous close of ₹5,516.25. The news of the planned stake sale emerged after the market closed on May 26.
Over the past five years, IndiGo shares have delivered over 461% returns to investors. In the past one year alone, the stock has appreciated by 27.54%, with an 18.02% gain recorded year-to-date in 2025. In the past month, the airline’s shares have risen by 1.55%.
On May 19, IndiGo touched its 52-week high of ₹5,665.65, while the 52-week low of ₹3,778.50 was observed on October 28, 2024. As of Monday’s close, the airline’s market capitalisation stood at ₹2,09,384.44 crore.
The potential offloading by the promoter group comes at a time when IndiGo is reporting strong financial performance and expanding its international operations, with a recent announcement about its longest direct flight yet.
