iPhone 17 Launched in India: Specs, Prices, and Availability Revealed
Apple unveils its latest iPhone with ProMotion display, stronger Ceramic Shield, and upgraded cameras
Apple has officially launched the iPhone 17 in India, the newest addition to its standard iPhone lineup. While not as radical as its Pro counterparts, the iPhone 17 introduces meaningful upgrades in design, durability, performance, and camera technology, offering a more refined everyday iPhone experience.
The iPhone 17 will be available in lavender, mist blue, sage, white, and black, with storage options of 256GB and 512GB. Prices start at ₹82,900 for the 256GB model, while the 512GB version is priced at ₹102,900. Pre-orders begin at 5:30 PM IST on September 12, with official availability from September 19.
Design and Durability
At first glance, the iPhone 17 maintains the flat-edge design introduced with the iPhone 12, but Apple has subtly refined the form. Softer corners make it more comfortable to hold, while the matte-finished back reduces fingerprints. The dual-camera system continues in a vertical layout, as reintroduced in the iPhone 16.
The device features Ceramic Shield 2 glass, which Apple claims is three times more scratch-resistant than before. A seven-layer anti-reflective coating enhances outdoor usability, reducing glare in strong lighting. Together with atomic-level coating on the display, the iPhone 17 aims to feel sturdier and more polished than its predecessor.
Display Upgrades
The iPhone 17 sports a larger 6.3-inch display, up from 6.1 inches on the iPhone 16. For the first time, the standard iPhone lineup gains ProMotion technology, allowing the refresh rate to scale from 1Hz to 120Hz. The display also reaches an impressive 3,000 nits peak brightness, the highest on any iPhone to date.
Performance
Powering the device is the new A19 chip, built on a 3nm process. It features a 6-core CPU (two performance and four efficiency cores) and a 5-core GPU. Apple highlights significant speed gains, particularly for users upgrading from older models.
Camera System
Apple has introduced a 48MP dual-fusion rear camera setup, combining wide and telephoto capabilities. It supports 1x and 2x optical modes with focal lengths of 13mm, 26mm, and 52mm, offering versatility for both wide shots and portraits.
On the front, the new 18MP selfie camera features a larger sensor, Center Stage support, and advanced stabilisation for video recording, making it more capable for group shots and vlogging.
Battery and Storage
Apple promises all-day battery life with up to eight additional hours of video playback compared to the iPhone 16. A 10-minute fast charge can provide up to eight hours of video streaming. Storage now starts at 256GB, offering more capacity than the 128GB entry-level models of previous years.
With these refinements, the iPhone 17 strengthens Apple’s mainstream offering, giving users a balance of durability, performance, and advanced imaging without stepping into Pro-tier pricing.
