In a shocking incident near Amar Tech Park on Airport Road, Pune, a 33-year-old IT professional was attacked with a koyta (billhook) early Thursday morning.

The assault happened around 3:30 am while the victim, a resident of Mahalunge and originally from West Bengal, was waiting to pick up his fiancée from work. A group of three to four men attacked him, leaving him with a fractured arm and injuries on his back and head. A video of the attack went viral on social media, sparking fear among IT workers in the area.

Swift Police Action

Pune police arrested two youths within six hours of the crime. The accused were identified as Balaji Shivaji Munde (19) and Siddharth Ishwar Daliya (19), both from Hadapsar. Police said Munde already has a criminal record.

Motive Behind the Attack

Investigations revealed it was a case of mistaken identity. According to police, the attackers were allegedly told by a cab driver friend to target another IT employee over a suspected love affair. When that person did not show up, the group attacked the victim out of frustration.

Victim’s Condition

The victim is now in stable condition and has been discharged from the hospital. Police said the attackers used the blunt side of the koyta, which helped prevent life-threatening injuries.

Zonal DCP Somay Munde confirmed the arrests and said strict action will be taken. The investigation is still underway.
