Jagdeep Dhankhar Resigns as Vice President of India, Cites Health Reasons

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has officially stepped down from his post, citing health concerns and the need to follow medical advice. His resignation, submitted under Article 67(a) of the Constitution, is effective immediately.

In a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support he received during his tenure. “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately,” the letter read.

He also thanked the President for her unwavering support and the cordial working relationship they shared. “I extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency – the Hon’ble President of India – for her unwavering support and the soothing wonderful working relationship we maintained during my tenure,” he wrote.

Dhankhar acknowledged the role of the Prime Minister and the Union Council of Ministers in his journey, saying their cooperation and support had been invaluable. “I express my deep gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the esteemed Council of Ministers. The Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office,” he said.

Appreciating the Members of Parliament, Dhankhar said the warmth, trust, and affection he received from them would remain embedded in his memory.

Reflecting on his time in office, he added, “It has been a privilege to witness and partake in India’s remarkable economic progress and unprecedented development. Serving in this transformative era of our nation’s history has been a true honor.”

Jagdeep Dhankhar had been serving as Vice President since 2022. Prior to this, he was the Governor of West Bengal from 2019 to 2022.
