Jalgaon to Get Direct Access to Samruddhi Expressway, Reducing Travel Time to Mumbai to 5 Hours
In a promising development for road infrastructure in Maharashtra, Jalgaon is now set to be directly connected to the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway. This strategic decision was finalized during a high-level meeting held in Nagpur, attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari.
The move aims to drastically reduce travel time between Jalgaon and Mumbai to just five hours by linking Jalgaon with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, which already has access to the expressway. Currently, the journey from Jalgaon to Sambhajinagar via Ajintha and Sillod takes around two to two and a half hours. However, the proposed road upgrade intends to cut this down to merely one hour. Since the drive from Sambhajinagar to Mumbai via the Samruddhi Expressway takes approximately four hours, commuters will soon be able to cover the full Jalgaon-Mumbai stretch in just five hours.
The meeting also focused on boosting connectivity between Chalisgaon and Kannad. Present at the session were state Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan, Public Works Minister Shivrendra Singh Raje Bhosale, MP Smita Wagh, and MLAs Devyani Pharande and Mangesh Chavan, among others.
While there’s an existing highway route from Jalgaon to Mumbai through Dhule and Nashik, heavy traffic often stretches the travel time to eight hours or more. The proposed plan offers a clear alternative that could shorten the journey by three to four hours.
To make this smoother route a reality, the construction of a 12.75-kilometer-long tunnel through the Autram Ghat between Chalisgaon and Kannad has been approved. This major infrastructure component is expected to cost around ₹2,600 crore and will significantly enhance transit efficiency along the corridor.
Up until now, Jalgaon had no direct link to the Samruddhi Expressway. This meeting in Nagpur marked a turning point, as the discussion laid out a solid framework to integrate the city into one of the state’s most ambitious road networks. With only an hour needed to reach Sambhajinagar and a four-hour ride to Mumbai from there, the five-hour Jalgaon-Mumbai journey is no longer just an idea — it’s on the road to reality.
This development not only promises faster travel but also opens up new economic and logistical possibilities for northern Maharashtra.
