From setback to startup success — how Harshil Tomar turned a layoff into an inspiring entrepreneurial journey.

In March 2025, during a regular morning meeting, 26-year-old Harshil Tomar was unexpectedly laid off from his remote job with an American company. What seemed like a crushing blow at the time became the turning point that changed his life. Just six months later, by October, his newly founded startup had generated an impressive Rs 44 lakh in revenue, marking a remarkable rise from uncertainty to success.

Sharing his story on social media, Harshil recalled how he was fired at 7 a.m. on March 13, 2025. “I was focusing more on my startup idea, so they told me I was being let go. I requested another chance to prove myself, but the decision was already made,” he wrote.

The days that followed were filled with confusion and self-doubt. “For the next 10–15 days, I didn’t know whether to look for another job or chase my dream. I reached out to friends for referrals, but there were very few opportunities,” he said. Throughout this period, Harshil kept the truth from his parents. “Even today, my parents think I’m still working. I didn’t want to scare them by telling them I’d lost my job.”

Instead of giving in to fear, Harshil decided to live frugally and take a leap of faith. “I realized that if I kept searching for safety, I’d never move forward. I wanted to build something of my own — even if it meant taking risks,” he wrote.

His journey wasn’t easy. In the beginning, there were no clients and no financial backing. But persistence paid off. Within six months, Harshil and his small team began working with well-known brands, gaining sponsorships on social media and being selected for a prestigious residency program.

“Today, our startup has reached a revenue of 50,000 USD (around Rs 44 lakh). We’re expanding our team from one person to ten, and I’m finally building my own SaaS product,” Harshil shared proudly.

His story has since resonated widely online not just as a tale of business growth, but as a reminder of resilience, courage, and the power of believing in one’s dreams even when the world feels uncertain.
