Kader Khan was one of Bollywood’s most talented actors, known for his unforgettable dialogues and versatile roles. He appeared in over 200 films, bringing life to every character he portrayed. Whether in comedy or villainous roles, his presence was often seen as a guarantee of the film’s success. However, few know about his difficult personal life, marked by immense struggles.
Kader Khan was born in Balochistan. His father, Abdul Rahman Khan, was from Kandahar, Afghanistan, and his mother, Iqbal Begum, was from Pishin. Tragically, Kader lost his three siblings at a young age in Afghanistan. To save their remaining child, his parents moved to India. In Mumbai, he grew up in the slums of Kamathipura, witnessing crime, drug abuse, and the harsh realities of life.
When Kader was three, his parents divorced, and his mother remarried. His stepfather was abusive and often sent him to beg for money. In an interview, Kader shared that his family went hungry three days a week. Due to extreme poverty, he considered leaving school to work in a local mill. Instead, he developed a passion for mimicry, hiding in a cemetery near a mosque to practice. This talent later paved his way to Bollywood.
Despite financial hardships, he completed his education at Ismail Yusuf College in Mumbai, followed by a degree in civil engineering. While working as a professor, his play caught the attention of Dilip Kumar, who offered him a film role.
Kader Khan made his Bollywood debut in 1973. He starred in over 20 films with Amitabh Bachchan, including “Muqaddar Ka Sikandar,” “Kalia,” and “Coolie.” His pairing with Govinda was also popular, delivering many hit comedies. Later, he settled in Canada. Kader Khan passed away in 2018, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable performances.
