Pune: The streets of Pune came alive with the thunderous beats of dhols and tashas as the Kalavant Dhol Tasha Pathak celebrated its 12th anniversary with a vibrant display of tradition, devotion, and inclusivity. Founded in 2014 under the Kalavant Trust, the Pathak has grown into a symbol of cultural pride and social harmony, uniting people across communities and abilities.

This year’s celebrations began with the sacred Wadya Poojan, a ritual that honours percussion instruments not just as tools of music but as sacred symbols of devotion. Adding to the emotional resonance of the event, girl students from Pune’s Blind School participated in the ceremony for the first time, reflecting the Pathak’s commitment to spreading joy and cultural spirit to all sections of society.

It started 12 years ago as a group of artists wanting to create our own identity during Ganesh Utsav. Today, the Kalavant Dhol Tasha Pathak stands as a beacon of art, devotion, and inclusivity.

The 45-minute performance that followed was a breathtaking display of energy and rhythm, with rows of drummers playing in perfect sync, their beats reverberating through the city streets and captivating passersby.

Over 25 well-known Marathi actors, including Sidharth Jadhav, Tejaswini Pandit, and Anuja Sathe, participated in the rituals and performances, adding both glamour and heartfelt support to the celebration.

The Kalavant Trust, which oversees the Pathak, also organises year-round social and cultural initiatives. But it is the Wadya Poojan and the electrifying dhol-tasha performance that herald the festive season in Pune, setting the tone for weeks of celebration and community bonding.

As the drums quieted and the crowd dispersed, the legacy of the Kalavant Dhol Tasha Pathak rang louder than ever — a rhythm of unity, a celebration of diversity, and a powerful example of inclusive cultural expression.
