In a heartwarming gesture of love and dedication, a paan shop owner from Kanpur surprised everyone — especially a local jeweller — when he walked in carrying two sacks filled with coins to buy a gold chain for his wife.
The incident took place at a small jewellery store in Ahirwan Raja Market, where 22-year-old Abhishek Yadav arrived with his year-long savings. The jeweller, Mahesh Verma, was left astonished when Abhishek opened the sacks, revealing coins worth more than ₹1 lakh.
Abhishek, who runs a paan stall near HAL Colony in the Ramadevi area, had been saving Rs 10 and Rs 20 coins he received from customers every day. Married just a year ago, he had promised himself that he would one day gift his wife something precious. When his wife recently went to visit her parents, Abhishek decided it was time to fulfil that dream.
After hours of counting, the total came to ₹1.05 lakh — 5,290 coins of ₹20 each. The gold chain he chose was priced at ₹1.25 lakh, and the jeweller allowed him to pay the remaining amount in instalments. “It took us over two hours to count all the coins,” said Verma, adding that the order would be ready in a few days.
Abhishek expressed joy and disbelief, saying he never imagined he could buy gold with coins. “I’ll gift it to her when she returns home,” he said with a smile.
The touching story quickly spread online, with netizens praising Abhishek’s dedication. Comments ranged from calling him a “truly devoted husband” to playful jokes like, “I showed this reel to my husband — he said it must be AI-generated!”
