Kasara Ghat Closure for Repairs: Alternate Routes Announced on Mumbai-Nashik Highway

Kasara Ghat Closure for Repairs: Alternate Routes Announced on Mumbai-Nashik Highway
Mumbai/Nashik, February 24: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced temporary closures of the Old Kasara Ghat section on National Highway No. 3 for road repair work. The closure will take place in two phases—February 24 to 27 and March 3 to 6—between 8 AM and 6 PM each day.
During this period, all types of vehicles, including heavy vehicles and those carrying oversized cargo (ODC), will be prohibited from using this stretch. Additionally, ODC vehicles will face round-the-clock restrictions on the Mumbai-Nashik and Nashik-Mumbai routes. NHAI officials have assured that resurfacing work, which involves laying a new bitumen layer, will be completed this week to avoid further disruptions.
Alternate Routes and Traffic Diversion
To ease congestion, the Maharashtra State Highway Police has announced alternative routes:
- For General Traffic: Vehicles heading towards Nashik on NH-3 will be diverted via the New Kasara Ghat near Chintamanwadi police station between 8 AM and 6 PM.
- For ODC Vehicles:
- Nashik to Mumbai: Diverted via NH-60 (Nashik to Pune) and then onto the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
- Mumbai to Nashik: Rerouted via the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and NH-60 (Pune to Nashik).
Safety Measures Implemented
To ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance road safety, authorities have put in place the following measures:
- Heavy Lifting Equipment: Two 20-ton cranes are stationed at the detour entry and exit points to swiftly remove any breakdowns, preventing traffic jams.
- Medical Assistance: An ambulance equipped with medical personnel and first-aid supplies is deployed at the start of the detour for emergency response.
- Clear Signage: Large directional and cautionary signs have been placed 100 meters before diversion points to alert drivers in advance.
- Traffic Control: Barricades at key locations (Latifwadi Cut Point and Shivneri Point) are set up to regulate traffic flow and enforce single-lane movement for safety.
- Lane Guidance: Plastic cones are positioned every 20 to 30 feet along the New Kasara Ghat to help drivers stay within their designated lanes, reducing the risk of accidents.
Authorities urge motorists to follow the prescribed routes and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure a safe and hassle-free journey.
