Konkan railway cracks down on ticketless travellers, collects Rs 5.6 crores in fines in last quarter
Amidst a surge in ticketless travel plaguing railway lines, Konkan Railway has intensified its efforts to curb unauthorized journeys.
The railway authorities have conducted extensive ticket verification campaigns, resulting in the detection of 18,466 unauthorized passengers in the last quarter. This crackdown has led to the imposition of fines amounting to a staggering ₹5.6 crores and 99 thousand.
The Mumbai-suburban railway line and the Konkan railway line have witnessed a rise in ticketless travel, prompting the railway administration to address the issue. Despite the ongoing actions against such practices, the prevalence of passengers without valid tickets remains a concern.
During the last three months, Konkan Railway detected a significant number of unauthorized or irregular passengers, totaling 18,466 individuals traveling without tickets. The authorities imposed fines totaling ₹5,60,99,000 on these violators. Notably, December 2023 alone saw 6,675 unauthorized passengers, with recoveries amounting to ₹1,95,64,926.
In response to these challenges, Konkan Railway emphasizes the importance of passengers traveling with correct and valid tickets to avoid inconveniences. The railway authorities aim to create awareness among commuters regarding the necessity of adhering to ticketing regulations.
As Konkan Railway remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring a fair and regulated travel experience, the fines collected serve as a deterrent against ticketless travel. Passengers are encouraged to contribute to the smooth functioning of the railways by complying with ticketing norms and avoiding unauthorized journeys.
